Conflicting Claims in Raja Raghuvanshi's Murder Case

Shillong, June 12: The inquiry into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi is evolving into a complex scenario filled with deceit and contradictory statements. The two main suspects, his wife Sonam and Raj Kushwaha, are accusing each other of being the mastermind behind the crime.

Davis N R Marak, the DIG of the Eastern Range, reported that Sonam has confessed to her involvement in the conspiracy but claims that Raj was the one who orchestrated the murder. Conversely, Raj has alleged that Sonam was the one who planned the killing.

“Sonam has admitted to being part of the conspiracy, but the identity of the mastermind remains ambiguous. Both parties are pointing fingers at one another. Once we finish our questioning, we will take them to Sohra to clarify the facts and address the discrepancies. Following that, we will conduct a at various locations,” stated DIG Marak on Thursday.

He also confirmed that the investigation into claims of hired assassins being compensated with Rs 20 lakh is ongoing.

The case has sent shockwaves through Meghalaya and beyond, starting with the discovery of Raja Raghuvanshi’s dismembered body in the secluded Sohra area.

Initially, the disappearance of Raja and Sonam was treated as a missing persons case, but the finding of Raja’s remains prompted a comprehensive murder investigation.

Sonam, who is currently in custody, surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 9. The Meghalaya police secured a three-day transit remand and transported her to Shillong under strict security measures.

She was flown overnight via Patna and Kolkata and taken to Sadar Police Station in Shillong. After undergoing a medical examination at a government hospital, she was placed in custody for judicial proceedings.

Upon her arrival in Meghalaya, Sonam, Raj, and three additional suspects—Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi—were presented before a Shillong court, which granted an eight-day police remand.
