Tragic Plane Crash in Ahmedabad
The nation is in mourning following a devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. Bollywood star Vikrant Massey has expressed his sorrow over the loss of Clive Kunder, the co-pilot of the Air India flight, who tragically perished in the incident. Vikrant revealed that Clive was the son of close family friends, deepening his sense of loss.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Vikrant shared, "My heart breaks for the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the unimaginably tragic air crash in Ahmedabad today. It pains even more to know that my uncle, Clifford Kunder, lost his son, Clive Kunder, who was the first officer on that fateful flight."
Clarification on Relationship
There was some confusion regarding Clive's relationship with Vikrant, with many believing him to be a cousin. Vikrant took to social media to clarify, stating, "Dear friends in the media & elsewhere, the unfortunately deceased Mr. Clive Kunder was NOT my cousin. The Kunders are our family friends. I request no more speculations and let the family and loved ones grieve in peace."
Details of the Incident

The aircraft was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain with over 8,200 hours of flying experience, while First Officer Clive Kunder had logged 1,100 hours. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the flight took off from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. A Mayday call was made, but the aircraft subsequently failed to respond.
The plane crashed shortly after takeoff, just outside the airport perimeter. Out of the 242 individuals on board, only one person survived.
Government Response
On June 13, the Prime Minister visited the crash site, where the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had met its tragic fate. He was joined by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and other officials.
