In a social media post on X, the Union Minister shared that the number of LPG connections in the country has increased from 14 crores to more than 33 crores in 2014, which has increased from 62 percent to more than 100 percent before 2016.
The minister said in the post, “The number of LPG dealerships to meet the growing demand has exceeded 25,570, so in a meeting with senior officials of @Troleummin and CMD of India’s energy sector public undertakings, we discussed the policy of portability from one OMC to another for consumers.” According to the post, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) has been a major contribution in this change, under which more than 10.33 crore free LPG connections have been distributed to the beneficiaries in both rural and urban areas. To meet the increasing demand for LPG, the number of LPG dealerships across the country has also increased to more than 25,570.
