The Agriculture Minister said that the sale of fertilizer without receipt is prohibited. Strict action will be taken under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and Fertilizer Control Order, 1985 on irregularities. He said that an FIR would be registered on compulsory tagging, overrowing or forced sale of other products.
A surprise inspection of fertilizer installations was conducted on 23 June in Sitapur and Lucknow, which found several irregularities. In Sitapur, establishments were sealed in Jain Enterprises, Balaji Traders, New Job compost store etc. Legal proceedings were initiated by suspending their licenses when Kisan Khanta Bhandar Behta and wholesaler were confirmed to sell fertilizers at higher rates in Lucknow.
The Agriculture Minister said that in the Kharif 2025 season, 39.58 lakh metric tons of fertilizer have been available so far, out of which 25.62 lakh metric tonnes have been sold and 9.91 lakh metric tons of stocks are left. He directed the officials not to monitor the distribution system strictly and no other products should be sold to the farmers with a higher price or pressure under any circumstances.
