Bangkok leads Asia’s presence in world’s 50 best restaurants 2025

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 awards ceremony took place in Turin, Italy, on the evening of June 19.

This year, Asia made an impression with 15 restaurants making the list, hailing from Thailand, the UAE, Japan, South Korea, and China.

Thailand led the region with six restaurants, all located in Bangkok. Gaggan, a restaurant serving Indian cuisine, ranked highest at 6th place.

Potong, a newcomer ranked 13th, is located in Bangkok’s Chinatown. Opened by chef Pichaya “Pam” Soontornyanakij, the restaurant offers a fusion of Thai and Chinese cuisine.

Housed in a five-story building that was once the family’s Chinese herbal medicine pharmacy, Potong has already earned a Michelin star.

Maido in Lima, Peru, took the number one spot this year, rising from fifth place last year. Chef Mitsuharu “Micha” Tsumura leads the restaurant, known for its Nikkei cuisine, Japanese techniques with Peruvian ingredients.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, launched in 2002 by U.K. media company William Reed, is voted on by over 1,100 experts from 28 regions.

Winners can only claim first place once and then enter the “Best of the Best” hall of fame.

The “Best of the Best” group includes Geranium and Noma (Copenhagen), Eleven Madison Park (New York), The Fat Duck (U.K.), Osteria Francescana (Italy), Mirazur (France), and Central (Peru). Last year’s champion, Disfrutar (Barcelona), has also been added into this list.
