News India Live, Digital Desk: Kolkata Gang Rape: The gang rape case with a law student in Kolkata has taken a new and shameful turn. This case was not limited to crime only, but now it has dominated politics and insensitive rhetoric of leaders. The most shocking thing is that Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has fiercely reprimanded two big leaders of his own party, Kalyan Banerjee and Madan Mitra, for their statements.
What is the whole matter?
A law student in Kolkata has accused the TMC leader’s son and his friends of gangrape. After this serious allegation, when reporters questioned Kalyan Banerjee, senior TMC leader, he made a very irresponsible and embarrassing statement. He questioned what the girl was doing with the boy in the hotel late at night? He tried to call it a case of “sourness in the relationship”, which is to make the victim stand directly in the dock. Similarly, another TMC leader Madan Mitra also questioned the girl being there late at night.
Mahua Moitra gave a befitting reply
MP Mahua Moitra became enraged on these statements of her own party leaders. He lashed out at his own party leaders on social media. Mahua clearly said that it is a disgusting mentality that blames the victim, which is filled with leaders of every party.
He wrote, “No woman gets the right to rape her, where does she go, or at what time.” Mahua insisted and said, “Na means no means (no means no).”
Mahua reminded the leaders of his party that their responsibility is to stand with the victim and not to justify her. She strongly condemned such anti-women thinking and said that this mindset needs to be abolished.
This incident shows how some leaders try to blame the victim even after a serious crime. Mahua Moitra’s standing against his own party is evidence of how important it is to raise voice against such wrong thinking, no matter what it is.
