New Delhi: Cristiano Ronaldo revealed he had offers from multiple clubs to sign for them and feature in the ongoing Club World Cup 2025, however, he decided to snub the offers to get much-needed rest over the summer and be ready for the FIFA World Cup 2026 next year. Ronaldo signed a new two-year deal at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr to extend his stay at the club.
There were rumours about Ronaldo looking to join a new club, following the end of his previous contract at Al-Nassr. Reports claimed that the Portuguese icon was interested in featuring in the Club World Cup and was looking to sign for a club that is participating in the tournament. However, Ronaldo decided to pen a new deal at Al-Nassr, which will keep him at the club till 2027.
Speaking about his decision to stay in Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo revealed he turned down offers from other clubs as he wanted to have adequate rest in the summer ahead of a crucial season, which will lead up to the FIFA World Cup next year. The 40-year-old said he wanted to be ready not only for Al-Nassr, but also for his national team.
“I had some offers to play in the World Cup but I think it didn’t make sense because I prefer to have a good rest, a good preparation, because this season will be very long as it is the World Cup season at the end of the year,” Ronaldo said in a video posted by Al-Nassr on X.
“I want to be ready not only for Al-Nassr but also for the national team. So, this is why I decided to play the last game for the Nations League and not listen to anything,” he added.
