New Delhi: Bollywood movies have been inspired by a lot of things including literature; among them one both novels and short stories. There are a lot of movies that are based on autobiographies and stories written in different languages by great writers.

1. Devdas

About the movie: This movie is based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel, whose name is Devdas. It is written in Bengali, and the novel’s story is about a wealthy man who becomes an alcoholic after his family disapproves of his relationship with the love of his life. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, and others.

2. 2 States

About the movie: The movie is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel named 2 States. The author’s books are very famous among teenagers, and the story is about two interstate people who met at IIM and fall in love with each other. But their parents do not agree to their marriage because of the cultural differences, but as the plot progress finally consent to do so. The film stars Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, and others.

3. 3 Idiots

About the movie: This is also another movie based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel, named Five Point Someone. It stars Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, Omi Vaidya, Mona Singh, and others. The novel is based on how the Indian education system creates pressure on students. It also adds some hilarious moments in between. The story mainly revolves around the three friends.

4. Haider

About the movie: The movie is based on Shakespeare’s play Hamlet. It is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and stars Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor, and Irrfan Khan among others. The movie revolves around the backdrop of Kashmir’s conflict.

5. Omkara

About the movie: The movie came out in 2006 and is said to be the modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello. The film shows the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh and explores themes of love, betrayal, and revenge. It stars Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Ajay Devgn, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Bipasha Basu among others.
