New Delhi: The famous orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala of Mumbai who operated on Rishabh Pant after a serious road accident in December of 2022 feels that although the somersaults by Pant are being done rather well it is an unnecessary event. During his path back home in Roorkee in December 2022 Rishabh Pant was involved in an accident with his luxury car hitting a divider after which he sustained various injuries. He had been treated in Dehradun and then he was flown to Mumbai. Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala conducted a ligament reconstruction surgery on his right knee in the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in the Andheri West. The wicketkeeper-batter was out from all forms of cricket for more than a year dealing with a lengthy rehabilitation stint at the National Cricket Academy. The wicketkeeper-batter was out of the game and all forms of cricket since more than a year dealing with a lengthy rehabilitation stint at the National Cricket Academy. He later returned to competitive cricket playing in the IPL 2024 with the Delhi Capitals. Pant has most recently hit the headlines after hitting two centuries during a Test match against England at Headingley the first Indian wicketkeeper to do so. He marked his first century with a somersault-just as he did earlier when he was representing the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025. Unnecessary celebration “Rishabh trained as a gymnast – and so although he looks large he is quite agile and he does have a lot of flexibility Pardiwala told The Telegraph. “And that’s why he’s been doing those somersaults of late. It’s a well-practised and perfected move – unnecessary though! he added. “He recognises the fact that he was extremely lucky to be alive. He’s so motivated as a cricketer. If you knew the Rishabh before this happened he’s a much more mature human being. He’s very philosophical now. He appreciates life and everything that goes around it. That typically happens to anyone who’s faced death in the face. Someone who’s had a near-death experience often gets life into perspective. “Rishabh Pant was extremely lucky to be alive – extremely lucky. To be in an accident like this where the car actually overturns and blows up the risk of death is extremely high Pardiwala said. Rishabh Pants heroic comeback It was only to be expected that the 27-year-old looked rusty in IPL 2024 but started feeling his form in the weeks since. His twin centuries provoked arguments over his status as one of the greatest Test wicketkeepers in India. His team will now be hoping that he can continue in the same form and turn his performances into match winning performances.
