Post Office Digital Payment: The Government of India is now going to give a stronger direction to the Digital India Mission. The Department of Posts (India Post) has announced the implementation of digital payments in post offices across the country from August 2025. That is, now payments can be made in the post office also through UPI, QR code, and online transactions. Till now lakhs of post offices in the country have been deprived of the digital payment system because their bank accounts were not linked to the Unified Payment Interface (UPI). But now this situation is going to change.

Why digital payment was not happening till now: Post offices did not have the technical facilities to link their customer interface with digital payments. That is, when a person bought a service or product from the post office, he could pay only by cash or card. The option to pay through UPI or scanning was not available. However, earlier the post office had tried to install static QR codes at its sales centers, but it had to be stopped due to technical deficiencies and customer complaints.

What will change now?: According to government sources, a new digital system has been developed under the 'IT 2.0' project, which supports QR code-based payments. This system will now be implemented across the country from August 2025. Its trial run has been done in the Karnataka circle. The facility of payment through a QR code was successfully provided during mail booking in the post offices of Mysore and Bagalkot.

What facility will people get? : Now you will be able to make payment by scanning UPI while taking service from the post office. The hassle of cash transactions will end and the payment will be confirmed immediately, receipt will also be given. Digital integration will be promoted in rural and urban areas and the services available in the post office will become even faster and reliable.

Post offices are one of the oldest and widest networks in India. With more than 1.5 lakh post offices becoming digital, the reach of digital payment systems in rural India will increase further. This step will not only increase the convenience of the customers but will also strengthen the government's goal of a cashless economy.
