As per the latest news reports, Char Dham Yatra has resumed after the 24-hour suspension was lifted on Monday, a day after heavy rains and a cloudburst triggered a deadly landslide near Barkot in Uttarakhand. This was informed by the officials in the know-how. The pilgrimage was earlier temporarily halted for safety reasons following a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Confirming the resumption, Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey told ANI news agency, “The 24-hour ban on Char Dham Yatra has been lifted.” However, he added that District Magistrates along the yatra route have been instructed to monitor the weather conditions and stop vehicle movement in their respective regions if necessary.

The incident that prompted the suspension occurred on Sunday when a cloudburst near Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district led to a massive landslide. Uttarkashi police reported that the cloudburst occurred approximately 4 km ahead of Paligad on the Yamunotri National Highway.
Reports added that repair efforts began immediately, and by Saturday, the damaged portion of the road before the Silai Band was restored. “The washout that happened due to a cloudburst before Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri road of the district has been repaired and the road has been made smooth, while the work of making the other washout smooth is going on,” said Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya.
He also confirmed the restoration of the 33 KV power line, while repair work on the 11 KV line continues.
Search and rescue operations remain underway, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and revenue departments deployed in the area. The deceased were identified as 43-year-old Kewal Bisht from Nepal’s Rajapur district and 55-year-old Duje Lal from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.

In response to the continuing threat of adverse weather, the IMD has issued a red alert for several districts across Uttarakhand, including Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, and Nainital for June 29 and 30. Authorities took a precautionary approach by suspending the yatra temporarily to ensure pilgrim safety.
While the route has now reopened, officials urge caution and advise pilgrims to stay updated with local advisories and weather alerts as they proceed with the sacred journey through the fragile Himalayan terrain.
