During the summer season, the aroma of mangoes is falling apart in the markets across the country, but this time there is a huge decline in the prices of ‘King of Fruit’. The growing arrival of mangoes has made the market cheaper, which has brought relief to consumers, while the concern of farmers has increased.

Inward fast, big fall in prices
Mango is getting heavy arrival from major producing states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. Due to this fast supply, prices have declined in wholesale mandis.
In Nagaur and Ajmer mandis of Rajasthan, Dussehri mangoes are being sold at Rs 40–50 per kg, lame 60–70 rupees and Badami is being sold at Rs 90–100 per kg. At the same time, the wholesale price in the areas of Ranchi has reached Rs 30–35 per kg.

Consumer happy, farmers disappointed
There is a smile on the face of consumers due to falling price. Mango is now available in cheap and large quantities. But on the other hand, it has also become difficult for farmers to extract costs.
Farmers say that this year production has been good, but prices have fallen so much that the cost is not being recovered.
Mahendra Yadav, a farmer from Bariyatu, says, “Mango yield was fine, but the prices have been reduced by half. The goods of many trucks have deteriorated in the market itself.”

Losses to traders too
Wholesale traders are also facing this decline. Due to over supply, the risk of storage and fruits deteriorating has increased.
Traders say that there has been an imbalance in demand and supply due to high amounts of goods in the mandis, which is expected to increase deficit.
Weather and quality also responsible
This time the weather also affected mango yield. In many areas, the quality of fruits has been affected due to irregular rains and temperature fluctuations. It has also had a negative impact on prices.

What next?
Market experts believe that the arrival of mangoes may increase further in the coming days, which is possible to further fall in prices. However, it is a good time for retail customers to buy better quality mangoes at low prices.
While the falling prices of mangoes are relief for consumers, farmers and traders are worried about it.
Many factors like weather, supply and market demand have become a challenge for common trade this year. In such a situation, it is important that the government and administration take concrete steps towards supporting the farmers, so that the benefit of production can reach everyone.
