YouTube AI Search: Google is now going to include generative AI on YouTube as well, which can completely change the way of video search. This feature has currently been launched only for YouTube Premium users and it will also include an AI-summary with every video that will highlight the most important information of that video. These AI-generated search results will appear at the top of the page, where users will get video thumbnails, tapping which will start the video from there.
Its purpose is to answer user questions directly and quickly, without opening the video. However, this feature is being provided in opt-in mode, that is, Premium users will have to turn it on manually by going to YouTube's experimental settings.
These users will get the benefit.
According to YouTube, in future, this AI tool will also be made available to some non-Premium users in the US. According to the company, many premium users are using it to understand important information in educational videos, to do quizzes and get suggestions.
Will this affect video views and creators' earnings?
Since the AI-summary will already be visible in search, many users may be satisfied by just reading the summary instead of watching the full video. This can have a direct impact on the views, comments and subscriptions of the video, which can lead to a decline in the engagement and income of content creators.
Such a trend has already been seen in web search where due to chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini, people have started asking questions directly to AI instead of traditional browsers. Many researches show that news and blog sites are getting 96% less traffic from generative AI based search engines than before.
Google Search chief Elizabeth Reed clarified that where AI overviews are given, the quality of clicks is better and people spend more time on those pages. But the case may be slightly different on YouTube. Because if users already get all the necessary information in AI-summary, then they can avoid watching the entire video, which can have a big impact on the growth and monetization of channels.
Veo 3 in Shorts
Along with this, YouTube is also planning to bring its new AI video generation model Veo 3 to Shorts. This AI model can produce videos with extremely cinematic quality, sound, and dialogue. According to reports, it has been trained with selected parts of YouTube's 20 billion video library.
