Celebrating Hool Day in Jharkhand

On Monday, Jharkhand's Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar paid tribute to the sacrifices of tribal warriors during the Santhal rebellion, coinciding with the observance of 'Hool Day'.

Hool Day is celebrated to remember the Santhal uprising against British rule that took place in 1855-56. The rebellion was led by two brothers, Sido and Kanhu Murmu, in the Jharkhand region.

In a social media post, Soren expressed his respect for the great heroes of the Hool rebellion, including the immortal martyrs Sido and Kanhu, as well as Chand-Bhairav, Phulo-Jhano, and other brave martyrs. He emphasized that the heroes of the Hool rebellion ignited the torch of tribal identity against the exploitation and oppression of the British government and moneylenders, fighting for the protection of water, forests, and land.

Soren remarked that the teachings of these courageous ancestors will continue to inspire people in their quest for justice and self-respect.

He concluded with a powerful message: 'Long live the immortal martyrs Sido and Kanhu! Long live the brave martyrs of Jharkhand! Jai Jharkhand!'

Governor Gangwar also extended his greetings to the tribal community on Hool Day and saluted the warriors of the Santhal rebellion. In a post on the social media platform X, he stated that their struggle against British rule will always inspire future generations to fight against injustice and serve their motherland. The rebellion began in the village of Bhognadih, aiming to raise a voice against the exploitation of the Santhal people by British and local landlords.
