In a heartfelt conversation with The Lallantop, Bollywood icon Aamir Khan got candid about the evolution of his relationships with fellow superstars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Shedding light on how personal challenges transformed his perspective, Aamir shared intimate moments that shaped his bond with Salman and reflected on how time and maturity helped mend previous misunderstandings.
Aamir on Growing Closer to Salman Khan During a Dark Phase
Opening up about a tough chapter in his life, Aamir revealed that it was during his emotional turmoil after his separation from Reena Dutta that Salman unexpectedly became a source of comfort and friendship.
“After my separation from Reena (Dutta), I was emotionally broken. I would drink a lot and shut myself off from people. One evening, Salman just dropped by for dinner. I don’t even remember how it happened, but we ended up talking for hours. That night marked the beginning of our real friendship.”
From Clashing on Set to Mutual Understanding
Their journey from co-stars to close friends wasn’t always smooth. Recalling their initial collaboration in the 1994 cult classic Andaz Apna Apna, Aamir admitted to early friction between the two.
“Salman would often arrive late, and I found it frustrating. At the time, I thought we could never be friends. But meeting him years later, I had changed. I’d learned that everyone has flaws. We all make mistakes. That realisation helped me become less judgmental.”
On the Constant Comparisons Between the Khans
Addressing the decades-long comparisons drawn between himself, Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan, Aamir offered a balanced take.
He stated that it was natural that people compare top performers, whether it’s in cricket or cinema. He mentioned that he understood the curiosity in the media and among fans.
A Humorous Encounter With the Next Gen Khan
In a lighter moment, Aamir shared a funny anecdote from the time he and Kiran Rao temporarily stayed on Carter Road during renovations at their home.
One day, he saw a huge crowd outside and thought. He rushed down, only to realise they were waiting for Tiger Shroff.
Success of Sitaare Zameen Par
On the work front, Aamir is currently basking in the success of his latest film Sitaare Zameen Par. The movie has crossed ₹100 crore at the Indian box office and has grossed over ₹160 crore globally, making it the fifth highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year.
