A Milestone Celebration in Bollywood
Mumbai, June 30: Kareena Kapoor Khan marked a significant milestone on Monday, celebrating her 25 years in the Hindi film industry.
The actress took a moment to reflect on her journey, sharing memorable moments from her debut film, “Refugee.” On Instagram, she posted several nostalgic photos from the film, captioning it, “25 years and forever to go …” The images included both solo shots of Kareena and moments with her co-star Abhishek Bachchan. She also tagged notable figures such as director J. P. Dutta, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, and Anupam Kher in her post.
Released in 2000, “Refugee,” directed by J. P. Dutta, was a romantic drama that marked the first appearance of both Kareena and Abhishek on screen. The film, which became the fifth highest-grossing movie of that year, tells the story of an unnamed Indian Muslim aiding illegal refugees from India, Pakistan, and modern-day Bangladesh in crossing the border through the vast Great Rann of Kutch. It is believed to be inspired by Keki N. Daruwalla’s short story, “Love Across the Salt Desert.”
Reflecting on his own 25-year journey in the industry, Abhishek Bachchan expressed his desire to focus on the future rather than dwell on the past. He shared with IANS that he aims to embrace the next chapter of his career with renewed purpose and determination. “I want to look forward. I want to think about the next 25 years—what I’m going to do next. That’s done now,” he stated.
Taking cues from his father, Amitabh Bachchan, who boasts an impressive five-decade career, the ‘Housefull 5’ actor emphasized the importance of continuous growth and forward-thinking in the industry. He remarked, “Take your experience and learnings from the last 25 years and use them to make yourself better.”
When asked about the possibility of re-releasing “Refugee” in theaters, Abhishek mentioned, “I’ll have to ask J.P. Sahab. Maybe. He’s the director and producer, so that decision lies with him. As a director, it’s up to him to decide whether the film still has something meaningful to say to today’s audience. I leave that choice to J.P. Sahab.”
