Palaniswami Stands Firm on AIADMK-BJP Coalition
Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the General Secretary of AIADMK, strongly defended his party's alliance with the BJP, asserting that no entity, regardless of its size, can dominate AIADMK, a party that has governed Tamil Nadu for over three decades. Speaking at a public rally in Kallakurichi on Sunday, the former Chief Minister dismissed concerns that the BJP would overshadow AIADMK within the coalition. He emphasized, "Our party has a legacy of more than 50 years and has ruled Tamil Nadu for 31 years. No one can overpower such a party.
Palaniswami's Remarks Amidst Criticism
His comments came in response to sharp criticism from the ruling DMK and its ally VCK, who have condemned the AIADMK's partnership with the BJP ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. Palaniswami clarified that the BJP alliance is merely the first step towards forming a broader coalition. Expressing confidence in regaining power in 2026, he stated that they would establish a government with a majority as the largest party.
Amit Shah's Assurance on NDA's Future
Last week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah indicated that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes the BJP, would form the government in Tamil Nadu after the 2026 assembly elections. He mentioned that the Chief Ministerial candidate would be from AIADMK, although he did not specify the current General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) by name.
