World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka beat Canadian Carson Branstine 6-1, 7-5 to ease into the second round at Wimbledon. But the Belarusian had to tell off a young fan while she was signing autographs on Court 1.
Sabalenka went viral in Brazil with a video of her swearing during a practice session. And the young supporter reminded her of it after the match.
"Yeah, he was talking Brazilian Portuguese, a little cursing stuff because of the video of me cursing in the practice went viral in Brazil," Sabalenka explained.
"I replied, 'You shouldn't be saying that'. Yeah, it was a fun moment (smiling)."
It looked like Sabalenka was steamroll Branstine in record time after rushing to a 6-1 opening set win. But the world No.190 offered up much more of a fight to take five games in the second.
"Well, I think the goal is to win as quickly, as easier as possible, so physically you're more fresh in the next rounds," Sabalenka explained.
"But I think it was really good for me to have this little fight in the second set just to, like, see where my level is at, if I'm mentally ready to fight.
"I think I'm ready. So I think at the end it was good to have this little fight in the second set."
