India is now moving rapidly towards becoming the next manufacturing hub of the world and the biggest example of this is Devanhali area of Karnataka. US President Donald Trump may have advised Apple to set up the iPhone factory in the US, but the reality is that production in India is proving more beneficial for Apple. This is the reason that Apple’s leading manufacturing partner company Foxconn has set up a huge iPhone assembly plant on 300 acres in Devanhalli on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
According to a New York Times report, this factory is not only giving pace to India’s economy, but is also bringing a tremendous revolution in employment and infrastructure at the local level. Due to Trump’s trade tariff and manufacturing complications in the US, companies like Apple are now spreading their feet in countries like India.
IPhone assembling easy in India
The report states that making iPhone in America is very expensive and difficult for Apple. Problems such as high wages, strict labor laws and availability of land in the US can cut Apple’s profits. On the other hand, there are many advantages such as the fast growing youth population in India, skilled workers available at low wages and simple process of land acquisition.
Foxconn’s plant makes Devanhalli’s identity
This plant, set up by Foxconn in Devanhalli near Bengaluru, is not only employing the local people, but is rejuvenating the entire region. Currently, about 8,000 people are working in this plant and this number is expected to increase to 40,000 by the end of the year. At one time, the area which was deserted, now the prices of land have increased by up to 400%.
The biggest example of ‘Make in India’
According to the report of Counterpoint Research, 18% of iPhones sold in the world were made in India by the beginning of 2024. This figure is expected to reach 30% by the end of the year. This is not only an industrial success for India, but also a major achievement of the ‘Make in India’ campaign.
Devanhalli shines with investment
After the arrival of Foxconn, dozens of multinational companies, schools, hospitals and real estate projects have started in Devanhalli. About 57 mega housing projects are going on here. Large real estate companies and international institutions are investing in this region, due to which these areas are now on the verge of joining India’s top industrial hubs.
