A newlywed woman allegedly died by suicide after consuming sulphas tablets on Sunday, reportedly due to dowry harassment, in Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur district. The victim has been identified as Ridhanya, daughter of Annadurai, a garment business owner in Tiruppur.
According to police sources, she was recently married to 28-year-old Kavin Kumar. As part of the dowry, her parents had given 100 sovereigns of gold and a Volvo car worth Rs 70 lakh. However, despite the lavish dowry, Ridhanya was allegedly harassed by her husband and in-laws — Eswaramoorthy and Chitradevi — who continued to demand more. Ridhanya had informed her parents about the harassment, but they reportedly reassured her that the situation would improve over time.
On her way to a temple yesterday, Ridhanya consumed Sulphas tablets and died by suicide. Her body has been sent to Tiruppur Government Hospital for postmortem examination.
Tiruppur police have arrested her husband and in-laws.
Moreover, Times Now has accessed a WhatsApp Audio Message sent by the deceased Ridhanya to her father, claiming that her husband and in-laws are the sole reason for her death. "My married life is the sole reason for this decision. My husband and his family are to blame. I’ve gone through enough physical and mental harassment. I don’t want this life anymor,; they will never change. Kavin, Eswaramoorthy, and Chitradevi are the reason I chose to end my life. My marriage has been a failure. Please forgive me, Mom and Dad," she said.
