Kiev. The war between Russia and Ukraine is now taking an even more terrifying form. On Sunday night, Russia carried out such dangerous air attacks on Ukraine that experts called this attack the most terrifying attack in this war. After the attack, the Ukrainian President signed a decree on Sunday. With the signing of this decree, his country has moved ahead on the path of getting out of the Anti Landmine Ottawa Convention.

The Ukrainian President also informed his country about signing this decree. He said, “I am ordering the implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated June 29, 2025, which includes the decision to withdraw Ukraine from the historical convention. This order will still have to be passed by the Ukrainian Parliament to take effect, after which the United Nations will be informed.”

The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, which is facing Russian attack, said on this decision, “Ukraine is obliged to give unconditional priority to the safety of its citizens and the defense of the state. It was necessary to exit this treaty to save our land and to protect our people from Russian atrocities. This decision was difficult for us but we had to do it.”

At the same time, a Ukrainian MP Roman Kostenko said that we have pulled out of this treaty too late. This should have been done much earlier. Russia has been using it against our common citizens and soldiers for a long time.

160 countries were part of the Anti Land Mine Treaty.
Let us tell you that the countries included in the Anti-Landmine Ottawa Treaty are prohibited from buying, making, storing or using anti-personnel mines. These mines are laid in the ground for humans. If a person steps on them, he may not die but his limbs get maimed.

This treaty on anti-landmines is also important because these mines laid during wartime are later forgotten and remain a risk for common people for a long time. Till now, a total of 160 countries including Ukraine were a part of this treaty. However, neither the United States nor Russia is a part of this treaty. India has also not signed this treaty made in 1997. At that time India said that it cannot sign it in view of regional disparities and threats. However, India had agreed to the responsible use of landmines.
