Belgrade. Anti-government protests are continuously intensifying in the Serbian capital Belgrade. On Monday morning, the police removed several road blockades in the city and continued the process of arresting protesters. For the past several months, there has been resentment in the country against the government of President Alexander Vucic, which is now taking the form of violent clashes.

Police on Monday morning removed barricades erected by protesters from the streets of Belgrade city. These barricades included metal railings, garbage cans and other items, which were put in place by thousands of protesters on Sunday night. In particular, the protesters also blocked a major bridge over the Sava River.

Police said that several people have been detained in this case, although the exact number was not made clear. In the viral video on social media, police vehicles were seen breaking the barricades at high speed, due to which people were seen running away in panic. Protesters have warned that they will return to the streets again.

These protests started on November 1 after the roof of a train station collapsed in Novi Sad city, in which 16 people lost their lives. People allege that this accident happened due to corruption and negligence in government projects. Since then, resentment against President Vucic’s government has been increasing.

On Saturday, a massive demonstration led by student organizations took place in Belgrade, in which thousands of people participated. During this, there was a clash between the police and the protesters, in which about 50 policemen and 22 protesters were injured. The police detained dozens of people and many students were accused of plotting against the country.

Government opponents accuse President Vucic of undermining democracy in Serbia over the past decade and promoting corruption and organized crime. Vucic denies these allegations. Serbia is in the process of joining the European Union, but it also maintains close ties with Russia and China.
