The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named senior leader and former MLC N Ramachander Rao as the new president of its Telangana unit, replacing Union Minister G Kishan Reddy. The appointment, made official on July 1, follows an uncontested nomination process that drew internal dissent.
Rao, a senior advocate and member of the Bar Council of India, was the lone nominee for the post. His elevation was backed by the BJP’s central leadership, effectively sealing his appointment. However, the decision triggered discontent within the party ranks, particularly from Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh, who had been vying for the position. In a dramatic turn, Singh announced his resignation from the BJP, citing disregard for grassroots aspirations and sidelining of loyal voices.
Who Is Ramachander Rao?
A familiar face in Telangana politics, Ramachander Rao previously served as a Member of the Telangana Legislative Council, representing Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Mahabubnagar Graduates’ Constituency from 2015 to 2021. He currently oversees the BJP’s membership drive in the state.
His appointment comes at a crucial time as the party looks to rebuild its organisational strength in Telangana.
