UAE Offers Visa-On-Arrival For Indians: But There’s A Catch

The United Arab Emirates has taken a major step to strengthen its ties with India by expanding its visa-on-arrival facility for Indian citizens. Starting February 13, 2025, Indian passport holders with valid residence permits from six additional countries—Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Singapore—can now obtain a visa on arrival at any UAE entry point.

A Strategic Boost to Bilateral Ties

The UAE Embassy in New Delhi has hailed the policy as a milestone in people-to-people diplomacy and bilateral cooperation. With this move, the UAE reaffirms its commitment to building deeper, more practical connections between the two nations—already strong partners in trade, tourism, and investment.

This latest update adds to the existing provisions that already allow visa-on-arrival access to Indian nationals holding valid visas or residence permits from the United States, the European Union, or the United Kingdom.

Greater Convenience for Indian Travellers

The new eligibility rules mean increased convenience for Indian travelers who frequently visit the UAE for business, leisure, education, or family reunions. Whether you are a professional collaborating across borders or a student visiting family, the simplified process reduces paperwork, saves time, and encourages seamless cross-border movement.

Abdulnasser Alshaali, the UAE Ambassador to India, underscored the importance of the initiative, stating that the program reflects the “enduring partnership” between both countries and will “make it easier for families to reconnect, professionals to collaborate, and businesses to grow.”

Implications for Trade, Tourism, and Growth

India remains one of the UAE’s most vital partners. More than 3.5 million Indians live and work in the UAE, and bilateral trade exceeds USD 85 billion annually. The visa expansion is expected to fuel further growth in sectors like tourism, education, real estate, and cross-border employment.

Industry experts believe this move will not only simplify travel but also foster stronger connections between entrepreneurs, academics, and investors from both sides.

Future Outlook: Building Bridges, Not Barriers

This development is aligned with the UAE’s long-term vision of becoming a global hub that welcomes skilled talent and nurtures international partnerships. For India, it offers expanded global access for its growing population of global professionals and residents abroad.

By opening doors wider for Indian citizens, the UAE is reinforcing its image as a nation focused on connectivity, cooperation, and inclusive growth.
