The Australian spinner Nathan Lyon is not retiring. Rather, he still has big eyes to win in India and England. All he did was to pass on his lead role duties of singing Australia's victory song to the wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
Lyon has been the lead for longer than any player in the group. In the 119 Tests he played, he won 67. Lyon remembers the one he won against India in 2015 at the Adelaide Oval right after the infamous death of Phil Hughes. And the second is the dominating 5-0 win in the 2013-14 Ashes.
Well, Lyon feels that he is honoured to lead the tradition, but passing on the role doesn't mean he is retiring. He has his wishes. Reflecting on those, Lyon said,
"I've been very honoured to first lead the song, but to have it for 12, 13 years, it's been one of the biggest highlights of my career. I've been thinking about it for a while now, but this definitely doesn't mean I'm retiring anytime soon. There's no talk about me retiring or even thoughts coming in my head."
He added,
"I've always said I want to win away in India, and I want to win away in England. Obviously, we've got that opportunity in a couple of years' time, but we've also got to take it Test by Test and make sure we're doing everything here and getting the games here in West Indies right. Then we've got a massive summer at home with the Ashes. But also, another World Test Championship final will be on my cards."

Alex Carey to lead the role
Had Australia won the 2025 World Test Championship, Lyon would have handed the duties to Alex Carey that day only. However, fate had other ways. Despite that, Lyon dropped his card to Carrey at Barbados, believing the keeper will keep the environment cheerful. Lyon added,
"It's more about the team environment and making sure that I get the opportunity to pass it on to someone who I look at and absolutely love and the way he goes about it on and off the field. I just feel like Alex is the perfect candidate. I feel like I ran my race with it and it's time for someone else to put their touch on it."
