The minimum balance limit for Punjab National Bank (PNB) accounts in urban and metro areas is Rs 2000. For bank accounts in rural areas, this limit has been fixed at Rs 1000.
Rules for HDFC account holders-
The rule for maintaining minimum balance (HDFC Minimum balance rules) in HDFC Bank depends on the type of account and the area of account. In metro and urban areas, account holders of this bank (bank account news) are required to keep a minimum balance of Rs 10,000 in the account. For small or rural areas, this balance has been fixed from Rs 2500 to Rs 5000.
Limit in ICICI Bank -
ICICI Bank customers are required to maintain a minimum balance of Rs 10,000 in ICICI Bank in big cities. Apart from this, this balance limit has been fixed from Rs 2500 to Rs 5000 in small or semi-urban areas. For account holders in rural areas, the minimum balance limit has been fixed at Rs 1000.

If a bank account holder does not maintain the required minimum balance in his savings account, then the banks charge a penalty amount (fine for no Minimum Balance) as per their discretion. This amount is a certain percentage of the amount fixed for the minimum balance. This bank does not charge any fee for not maintaining the minimum balance (Minimum Balance limit rules).
