New Delhi . India is creating a new high power missiles with bunker-piercing capacity, which will be able to target the underground bases considered extremely safe. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is working on a new version of Agni-5 Intercontinental Ballistic Missile. This missile can easily reach 80 to 100 meters below concrete layers. The current Agni-5 missile range is more than 5 thousand kilometers. This takes traditional weapons. The new version of Agni-5 will have the capacity to carry 7500 kg weighing bunker-piercing weapons. India aims to target the enemy command-and-control center, missile Silo and important military structure through this missile. This missile will be hypersonic, which can reach Mac 8 to Mac 20 speed. Its cost will not be kept too high. It would be a rapidly responding weapon, one step ahead of bunker-piercing bombs dependent on the US’s expensive B-2 bomber aircraft.
Work on two versions of Agni-5
According to the report, two new versions of Agni-5 are being prepared. The first version will be an explosion weapon above the ground, while the second will be a depth missile. It will be able to destroy underground structures. The weight of these missiles will be around 8 tons. Their range will be up to 2,500 km. This new missile will further strengthen India’s defense capabilities. Their usefulness in targeting strategic military bases, especially, will increase considerably. The modern version of Agni-5 is being worked on by DRDO at a time when India’s relations with China and Pakistan are tense. In such a situation, the importance of these deadly weapons for India increases even more.
