While Brad Pitt's F1 Rocks Box Office, Desis Call It A 'Copy' Of Saif-Rani's Ta Ra Rum Pum

Filmmaker Joseph Kosinski’s F1 starring Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem has turned out to be a massive box office success not just in the west but in India as well.

The film made a record-breaking Rs 25 crore in its opening weekend making it the second biggest ever for an original Hollywood film in India right behind Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

Overall, F1 which is made on a reported $200 million budget has collected $146 million at the worldwide box office in just three days.

While F1 is turning out to be a record-breaking hit for an original Hollywood film, desi fans are not impressed.

Many of the desis have taken to social media and are calling it a “copy” of Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji’s 2008 film Ta Ra Rum Pum.

Sharing their take, one social media user wrote, “F1 movie is basically Ta Ra Rum Pum in English with same plot as driver once who was top of his game becomes taxi driver and struggles but later does the comeback!”

Another user reacted, “People comparing Tara Rum Pum with F1 should know that RV run so that sonny hayes can fly”.

A third user wrote, “Unpopular opinion but Tara Rum Pum is better than F1.”

A fourth user stated, “Tara Rum Pum >> F1 The Movie. Like half of the plot is same, and there's no emotion in F1 The Movie. #F1TheMovie #TaraRumPum”.

About Ta Ra Rum Pum

Directed by Siddharth Anand, Ta Ra Rum Pum released in 2007 also featured Jaaved Jaaferi along with Saif and Rani.

The film was the ninth biggest grosser of the year in India and 10th biggest in terms of global box office.

It made Rs 38.44 crore in India and Rs 69.14 crore, globally, on a reported budget of Rs 30 crore.

While F1 depicts the F1 race, Ta Ra Rum Pum is about NASCAR.
