The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are the joint hosts of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 set to take place early next year. Although India were supposed to be the sole hosts of the tournament but with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refusing tour India and vice-versa their matches will presumably take place in Sri Lanka along with possibly the semi-final and final if they qualify. The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was the biggest-ever tournament featuring a mammoth 20 teams for the first time ever which India went on to win in the Caribbean. Defending champions and co-hosts Team India and Sri Lanka are the automatic qualifiers for the tournament which will once again be a 20-team affair. Joining the group of automatic qualifiers from 2024 Canada booked their ticket for a return in 2026 thanks to their win at the recently-concluded Americas Regional Final on home soil. The Canadians completed an undefeated run on their road to India and Sri Lanka brushing off the likes of Bermuda Bahamas and the Cayman Islands. As hosts Sri Lanka and India take up the first two spots for 2026. From there the next 10 spots were determined by Super 8 qualifiers at the 2024 edition and ICC men’s T20I Team Rankings at the June 30 2024 cut-off date. Thanks to their strong opening round performance and entry to the Super Eights Afghanistan Australia Bangladesh England South Africa and the West Indies all secured T20 World Cup 2026 spots as well as USA who upstaged Pakistan in a Super Over to steal a Second Round spot in Group A. Despite missing out on the Super 8 Pakistan secured their place at the next edition thanks to their T20I ranking alongside New Zealand and Ireland.
