WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Squid Game.

The much-anticipated Squid Game season three has dropped, and with it, the official Rotten Tomatoes score is out.

Following on from the cliffhanger ending of series two in 2024, protagonist Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) is forced back into the deadly competition after his attempted rebellion and the killing of his comrade Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).

In this latest instalment, the remaining contestants are subjected to a fresh hell of games, including a savage version of hide and seek, a harrowing round of jump rope, culminating in a deceptively simple yet fatal game of push.

However, the most jaw-dropping moment comes when Player 222's (Jo Yu-ri) infant emerges as the victor after Gi-hun chooses to end his life, defiantly telling Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and the VIPs: "We are not horses. We are humans."

With fans and critics having devoured the final episodes of the Netflix sensation, the Rotten Tomatoes rating has now been revealed.

Regrettably, Squid Game season three has received its lowest critical rating to date, albeit marginally lower than series two.

The third chapter earned a solid 80% from critics, just shy of the second series' 82%, while the debut season achieved an outstanding 95%.

Yet, it's the Popcorn metre, reflecting audience sentiment, that truly indicates the discontent with the show's concluding chapters.

Squid Game season three has garnered a lacklustre average of only 50% on the Popcorn metre, a stark contrast to the 63% for series two and a high-flying 84% for the inaugural season.

Critics and fans alike have been vocal about the latest series, with one critic stating that its "conclusion falls short in terms of both impact and a thoroughly satisfying resolution", while another slammed its worldbuilding as "frustratingly unimaginative".

Subscribers also voiced their discontent, with one viewer commenting: "Honestly, the ending just doesn't work. The 'deaths' were too forced and the direction wasn't good. In my opinion, one season was enough."

Another user wrote: "This is some of the worst writing I've seen in a while.

"They had no idea where to go after a great season one."

Yet, not all feedback was negative, as some viewers remained enthusiastic, with one fan exclaiming: "Incredible. The writing and acting is out of this world."

Another supporter shared: "It was perfect, the most realistic ending we could have asked for.

"Heavy on the heart always with the tragedy you expect from Squid Game."

And another added: "Squid game season three was a great season with so many emotions that was in this last season the acting was top notch and this season definitely doesn't deserve the hate it's getting."

Squid Game is available to watch on Netflix.
