A Royal Navy ship has been deployed to put pressure on North Korea following increased tensions in the Indo-Pacific region.
HMS Spey joined Japanese naval vessels to enforce United Nations Security Council Resolutions on the isolated Asian nation, accused of ramping up weapon production, in the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea.
Working alongside the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force, HMS Spey monitored North Korean ships suspected of breaching sanctions previously imposed on Pyongyang.
Kim Jong-un is understood to be generating revenue for his nation through weapons proliferation, leading to increased maritime surveillance to prevent trading.
Data collected from the operation was later passed on to United Nations Command.

The Royal Navy confirmed the exercise, boarded by personnel from 148 Battery ashore for Exercise Bersama Shield 2025, adds to its ongoing effort to sustain security in the region.
After the patrol, Spey docked at Sasebo Naval Base, in Japan, hosting several senior figures from the UK, Japan and US naval forces.
This senior delegation featured Group Captain Andrew Johnson, Director of United Nations Command - Rear, Rear Admiral Yasutaka Ebata of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force, and Captain Mike Fontaine, Commanding Officer of Fleet Activities Sasebo from the US Navy.
The US Navy has ramped up its efforts to install order on the seas of the Indo-Pacific region, following repeated efforts by China to enter Taiwanese air and sea space.
The Royal Navy confirmed the meeting of delegates brought about the chance to strengthen ties with its Japanese and American counterparts.
It added the trio of powers discussed how to improve operational cooperation to respond to security risks posed in the area.
An onboard football match also took place between Spey's crew versus sailors from Japan's JMSDF Escort Flotilla 2, with the latter running out 4-3 winners.
HMS Spey's Commanding Officer, Commander Paul Caddy, claimed it had been a privilege for the ship to support United Nations Command.
