Inauguration of the Amarnath Yatra
The eagerly awaited Amarnath Yatra kicked off today, with the initial group of pilgrims arriving in the scenic Kashmir valley. Local residents warmly welcomed them at the Navyug Tunnel in Qazigund, Kulgam district, and Pahalgam, marking a joyful return to tradition after the unfortunate incidents of the previous year.
On July 2, 2025, the first batch of pilgrims was greeted at the Navyug Tunnel, where Kashmiri youth and locals celebrated their arrival with sweets, smiles, and the delightful scent of traditional Izbandh Soz. This gesture highlighted the spirit of communal harmony that is a hallmark of the region.
As the pilgrims made their way, chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' and 'Bam Bam Bhole' resonated, showcasing the fervor and devotion of those embarking on this sacred journey. This warm reception reflects the overall sentiment in Jammu and Kashmir, which is preparing to host the 38-day pilgrimage officially commencing on July 3, 2025. Authorities have established strict security measures to ensure the safety of all participants.
In a display of solidarity, locals expressed their happiness in welcoming the devotees, underscoring the importance of the pilgrimage. A local resident shared, 'We are delighted that Amarnath devotees are visiting Kashmir for the first time since the Pahalgam attack. The community is thrilled, and we are grateful for the chance to welcome them today.'
The annual pilgrimage to the sacred Amarnath cave commenced from Jammu under enhanced security protocols. Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, officially flagged off the first group of pilgrims, ensuring comprehensive security arrangements, especially along National Highway 44 (NH-44), a vital route for the yatra.
Around 4,500 devotees set off from Jammu, embarking on a spiritual journey that holds great significance for many across the nation. Authorities are committed to maintaining vigilance to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during this sacred event.
