Britain’s Princess of Wales, Kate, opened up about the emotional toll of her cancer battle, saying she had to “put on a sort of brave face" throughout her treatment and recovery.

During a visit to a hospital in Essex on Wednesday, the 43-year-old royal described her experience as “life-changing" and reflected on the difficult transition after chemotherapy.

“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment, treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal’, but the phase afterwards is really… difficult," she told staff, patients, and volunteers.

Kate announced in March last year that she would undergo chemotherapy after an unspecified form of cancer was detected following major abdominal surgery.

She completed the treatment in September and said earlier this year she is now in remission.

Highlighting the challenges many patients face after active treatment, she noted that even when no longer under direct clinical care, people can still struggle to return to everyday life.

“It’s a rollercoaster, it’s not one smooth plane," she said, adding that the impact extends beyond the patient to their entire family.

The princess has been slowly resuming royal duties, but did not attend the Royal Ascot last month. Sources said her schedule continues to be carefully balanced as she recovers.
