Drivers on the M25 experienced delays until the early hours of Friday morning after a crash and a reported fuel spill late on Thursday. The Dartford Crossing was shut off for several hours as Essex Police assisted National Highways with the clean-up. The incident involved a lorry and has resulted in a fuel spillage. Drivers were told to expect delays of around 50 minutes.
The collision happened between Junction 31 and Junction 1a, and traffic has been stopped since 11.05am today. Those travelling southbound on the M25/A282 were diverted through the east bore of the tunnel. Traffic monitoring site Inrix said this afternoon: "M25 QE2 Bridge clockwise closed, severe delays due to accident, a lorry and a car involved and fuel spillage from J31 A1306 (Lakeside / Purfleet) to J1a A206 (Dartford). Congestion to J28 A12 (Brook Street Roundabout), A13 queues back to Wennington and Grays, and either side through Thurrock and Purfleet."
