IND vs BAN: Virat & Rohit's Return Postponed? Real Story Behind Delay

The upcoming tour of Team India to Bangladesh is expected to be postponed, with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) reportedly raising concerns about the current security situation in the neighboring country.

India was originally scheduled to play a six-match white-ball series — three T20Is and three ODIs — between August 17 and 31, in Chittagong and Dhaka.

The political environment in Bangladesh has remained tense since the ousting of the Sheikh Hasina-led government last year, following widespread student protests over job reservation policies. Since then, an interim government headed by Muhammad Yunus has taken charge.

Security Comes First

According to a BCCI official quoted by PTI, the Indian cricket board is closely monitoring the situation and is being cautious about player safety given the recent political unrest and protests in Bangladesh.

“The BCCI is obviously cautious about the security situation in Bangladesh after political instability and protests,” the source said.

While the tour is not being scrapped entirely, the BCCI is planning to reschedule the series to 2026, especially since ODI Super League points crucial for World Cup qualification are involved.

The BCCI is believed to be in favor of conducting the tour only after Bangladesh holds its general elections, and a stable government is in place to ensure law and order.

Elections in Bangladesh are expected to take place early next year, meaning the current interim leadership under Yunus will remain in charge until then.

This potential delay means fans will have to wait longer to see the return of stars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who were expected to feature in the series. However, with safety being paramount, the BCCI is unlikely to take any risks until the political climate in Bangladesh stabilizes.
