Discover the outsider competing against Ranbir, Yash, and Sunny Deol in an epic film worth ₹835 crore

Mumbai: On Thursday, the first look of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana was shown. Heavyweights like Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana are included in the movie, which is touted as the largest and most costly ever produced in India. Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Sai Pallavi as Sita are also featured on the title card. Alongside these celebrities is a former television actor who could make his big screen debut in this movie. One of the main characters in the high-profile movie is Ravi Dubey, who portrays Lakshman in the mythical epic.

The transformation of Ravi Dubey from engineer to cinema star

Ravi Dubey was born in Gorakhpur and raised in Delhi and Gurgaon before attending the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology in Mumbai to study electrical and telecommunications engineering. Ravi started modeling while in college and ultimately got a TV job in 2006 with Doordarshan’s Stree…Teri Kahaani. Eventually, Ravi made his breakthrough with 12/24 Karol Bagh and Saas Bina Sasural. With the popular program Jamai Raja, he achieved even more popularity.

He debuted in a movie in 2011 with Arun Govil’s UR My Jaan, but when it failed, he went back to television. He was chosen to play Lakshman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana in October 2024. It just so happens that his first producer, Arun Govil, portrays King Dashratha in the movie.

Although Ravi’s role as Lakshman had been rumored for months, the actor had not formally acknowledged it until Thursday, when his name appeared on the title card. Ravi then shared the first look video on social media to prove it. “Being a part of a story that has shaped generations is the greatest honor of my life,” Ravi said in a poignant Instagram post. The appearance of the other important cast members, such as Ravi, Pallavi, and Sunny, is yet unknown, despite the brief appearances of Ranbir as Ram and Yash as Ravana in the video.

Concerning the Ramayana

Ramayana is the most costly Indian movie ever created, with an estimated budget of ₹835 crore. Nitesh Tiwari is directing and Namit Malhotra is producing the two-part epic. Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman composed the soundtrack. Diwali 2026 will see the release of Part 1, while Diwali 2027 will see the release of Part 2.
