The second Test between India and England at Edgbaston has seen several standout performances—but not all for the right reasons.

While Jamie Smith and Harry Brook have shone with the bat, rescuing England from a collapse, Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna found himself on the wrong side of the record books after a forgettable outing.

As Day 3 began, Mohammad Siraj provided India a dream start, taking two wickets in two balls and reducing England to 5 down for under 90. But that momentum was short-lived.

The duo of Smith and Brook not only halted India’s charge but also accelerated the scoring with an aggressive 200+ run partnership. Unfortunately for India, Prasidh Krishna bore the brunt of their onslaught.

Worst Economy in Tests (Min. 500 Balls)

With the ball, Krishna has now earned the record for the worst economy rate in Test cricket history among bowlers who have delivered at least 500 balls.

The 29-year-old has conceded 518 runs in 588 deliveries, translating to an economy of 5.28 runs per over—the highest ever for any bowler meeting that criteria.

During the current Test, he bowled an 8-over spell at a shocking economy of 7.60, leaking runs without much control or rhythm. So far in the series, he has maintained an average economy of 6.53, which underlines his struggles with line, length, and consistency.

Most Expensive Spell by an Indian Since 2006

On Day 3, Krishna’s first spell was especially costly. He conceded 50 runs in just 5 overs, marking the most expensive spell by any Indian bowler in Test cricket since 2006. His wayward bowling allowed the English batters to settle and dominate, leaving India without control in the middle overs.
