The film starred Shah Rukh Khan Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor along with Akshay Kumar in a supporting role. The story revolved around the lives of members of a musical troupe in which two dancers (Dixit and Kapoor) fall in love with their chorographer (Khan) getting entangled in a love triangle. Made in a budget of Rs 9 crore the film earned Rs 12.04 crore overseas and became the highest-grosser of the year. The film was highly praised for its direction screenplay soundtracks and energetic performances by the star-studded cast. Why Kajol rejected Dil Toh Pagal Hai? Interestingly Karisma Kapoors role was first offered to Kajol. However the actress reportedly passed on the offer. During her appearance on Koffee With Karan S8 alongside Rani Mukerji Kajol revealed that she said to Nishas role and it eventually landed in Karismas destiny for which she won a Filmfare and National Award for Best Supporting Actress. Recalling the time when she was offered Dil Toh Pagal Hai Karisma shared on a reality television show Every single heroine refused the film. The role came to me...it was a dance film and that too to work opposite Madhuri Dixit they said How can we dance alongside Madhuri Dixit ji! Initially I too said no to it as it was a dance film and competition dance with Madhuri Dixit. I said This isn’t happening. Then finally Yash ji and Adi (Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra) narrated the story to me. My mother told me You must take up the challenge. You are a big fan of Madhuri Dixit you must do it. You work hard and you will shine.
