Mumbai: The Bhandup police have registered a case against six individuals for abetting the suicide of 23-year-old Shivam Vinod Tiwari, an Amazon delivery boy. The accused allegedly forced Shivam to reject undelivered parcels using his ID and subjected him to physical assault and severe mental harassment over financial demands.

The individuals charged include two Amazon employees, Sonu Yadav, 29, from Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai, and Chetan Gautam, 34, from Mulund, along with Shivam’s friend Omkar More, 28, from Mulund, and Aniket Ghadi, 24, Dhanraj alias Ganesh Nikalje, 25, and Gautam Dhekle, 23, who were reportedly sent by Omkar to assault Shivam.

According to the police complaint filed by Satyam Tiwari, 20, the victim’s younger brother, Shivam had been working as a delivery boy for Amazon at Sai Dham Minirma Industrial Area, Mulund (West), since 2023. The family resides in Khindipada, Khadan Road, Bhandup. About a month ago, at 1am, Yadav and Gautam visited Shivam’s house, verbally abused him, and threatened him over an alleged unpaid sum of Rs75,000 for delivered goods.

Fearing for Shivam’s safety, his father, Vinod, immediately paid the full amount. For the 15 days leading up to his death, Shivam returned home from work visibly distressed every night.

When his family pressed him for details, he revealed that Yadav and Gautam were forcing him to use his Amazon ID to reject undelivered parcels belonging to other individuals. Due to excessive rejections, his ID would sometimes get blocked by the company. He further explained that if he refused to comply or brought money from deliveries home instead of depositing it, Yadav and Gautam would call him, subjecting him to verbal abuse and threats.

Shivam also owed Rs30,000 to his friend Omkar for workrelated purposes. Omkar constantly called and messaged him, abusing and threatening him for repayment.

Despite his family’s efforts to console him, Shivam remained under immense stress. On the evening of July 2, a highly distressed Shivam returned home from work.

Around 9pm, Ghadi, Nikalje, and Dhekle arrived near Shivam’s house, specifically looking for him. Ghadi explicitly told Satyam, “Omkar bhai ne Shivam ko marne ke liye hume bheja hai” (Omkar brother has sent us to beat Shivam).

Satyam assured them they would repay the money, after which they left. When Shivam, who was alone at home, did not respond, his cousin Shubham peeked through the kitchen window and saw Shivam hanging by a rope from an iron angle on the roof, with his feet dangling in the air. Shubham immediately informed Satyam of the incident.

The family opened the back door of the house and, with police assistance, brought Shivam down. He was rushed to Agarwal General Hospital in Mulund, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
