
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, highlighted the government’s strong focus on innovation-led growth, job creation, and entrepreneurship during an interactive session with industry leaders in Bengaluru on Saturday. The minister outlined key initiatives recently approved by the Union Cabinet, with a cumulative financial commitment exceeding Rs 3 lakh crore.
Detailing the government’s ambitious strategy, Goyal said, "Under the leadership of PM Modi, our Ministry approved a scheme to provide Rs 1 lakh crore to promote research and development and innovation. We have also come out with a Rs 2 lakh crore employment generation incentive scheme and several other programs for skill development, internship program."
He highlighted that these measures are aimed at building a robust support system for startups, technology-driven enterprises, and the manufacturing sector. "These will give encouragement to support an ecosystem of startup, tech and manufacturing," he added, underlining the government’s commitment to inclusive economic growth through targeted sectoral support.
Bengaluru's Tech Ecosystem Earns Praise
Recognising the role of Bengaluru in driving India’s digital and technological advancements, Goyal lauded the city's ecosystem of startups, deep tech enterprises, and global capability centers. "I also believe that the deep tech industry, the startup ecosystem, which is present in Bengaluru in a big way, is a jewel in our crown. We are very proud of the good work that the tech sector particularly, and the global capability centres are doing," the minister said.
National Security And Economic Integrity Interlinked
Goyal also touched on broader national concerns, responding to remarks from attendees who praised the government's swift action in the wake of a recent terrorist incident. Referencing Operation Sindoor, he said, "I was also very pleased when one of the questioners complimented the government for the fitting response given under Operation Sindoor to the terrorist attack, which was an attack on India's economic progress, which was an attack on India's integrity and sovereignty."
