Caution! Heavy rain alert for a week- from MP to Bengal and Odisha, red alert in Himachal

The strong activity of monsoon is indicating heavy rains in many parts of the country for the next 7 days ‘Heavy to very heavy rains’ are expected at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bengal, Odisha, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh from July 6-8. Madhya Pradesh in particular will receive widespread rainfall between July 6-11.

In Himachal Pradesh, a red alert has been issued for Kangra, Sirmaur and Mandi districts on July 6, while an orange alert will be in place in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, Kullu and Chamba districts. Around 260 roads in the state have been closed, and 74 people are reported dead and many missing.

A low-pressure area has formed in West Bengal and heavy rainfall of 7–20 cm has been predicted in East and Central Bengal. IMD has also issued an orange-yellow alert in Odisha .

Apart from this, moderate to heavy rains along with thunderstorms and strong winds (30-40 km/hr) will continue over East India, especially over Ganga Plain, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and some parts of Central India for the next 7 days .


Tips for your safety:

  • People in Himachal should not come out of their homes during the red alert .

  • Be alert for waterlogging, landslides and strong winds in northern and central-eastern states .

  • Stay away from dilapidated structures around houses and avoid rivers and drains.
