He jokingly said how big brands like Prada pick up things from Indian culture and sell it at a very expensive price, while that thing has been common and cheap for us for centuries.

In fact, Prada in his spring/summer 2020 collection introduced Kolhapuri chappals as ‘black leather sandals’, which was priced 350 pounds (about ₹ 80,000 at that time). This was not liked by the Indians at all, because Kolhapuri chappal is the traditional identity of Maharashtra and it is easily found for a few hundred rupees. Even then people trolled Prada on social media.

Kareena’s statement shows that she is not only limited to the glamor world, but also has an understanding of social and cultural issues. He taunted Prada in a very smart manner without naming anyone.

The phenomenon leads to a major debate not just a slippers, but a major debate of ‘Cultural Accession’ (inappropriate use of cultural things), where the Western brands adopt the traditional things of the third world countries and sell them at huge profits, without giving appropriate credit to the original culture.
