In an interview with Channel News Asia on the sidelines of the Mediacorp Star Awards 2025 on Sunday, Chow shared that his time in Singapore is centered around one simple activity: eating.

“Singapore–what places can I go to? I just sleep, go to the markets, and eat,” he said.

Chow went on to list some of his favourite hawker centers, including Old Airport Road Food Centre, Newton Food Centre, Maxwell Food Centre, and Lau Pa Sat.

“I don’t go to any of the shopping centers, I just go to the hawker centers,” he said, emphasizing his preference for local, authentic food experiences.

When asked what he typically orders at these food hubs, Chow shared that chicken rice is a staple, but he also enjoys Teochew kuehs—savory and sweet cakes and dumplings.

“Every hawker center has its specialty,” he explained. “Sometimes I go to seven or eight hawker centers and eat a bit at each one.”

A legendary figure in Hong Kong’s entertainment industry, Chow, 70, rose to fame through TVB dramas such as “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” and “The Bund.” Throughout his illustrious career, he has earned numerous accolades, including three Hong Kong Film Awards and two Golden Horse Awards for Best Actor.

In 2023, Chow was named Asian Filmmaker of the Year at the 28th Busan International Film Festival, becoming only the second Hong Kong actor, after Tony Leung, to receive this prestigious honor.

Chow married Singaporean Jasmine Tan in 1987. The couple has remained childless after losing their daughter in 1991 due to a nuchal cord complication, deciding not to pursue further attempts to have children due to health risks for Tan, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
