Social media and messaging platform WhatsApp has millions of users worldwide. People use WhatsApp for various tasks. That is, from messaging families to giving updates on office groups, WhatsApp helps us from time to time. We are constantly chatting with someone on WhatsApp. But there is always a fear in our mind, that is, is someone monitoring our WhatsApp chats?

WhatsApp is considered a safe social media platform. Through WhatsApp, we message friends, family, and office friends. We update many people about what happened to us throughout the day through WhatsApp. But what if someone is reading all this information that you share, or someone is monitoring it? No matter how safe WhatsApp is considered, using it without its privacy and security settings can be dangerous. Now we are going to tell you about 5 such settings, which will increase the security of your WhatsApp chats.

Activate End-to-End Encrypted Backup

WhatsApp already encrypts your chats end-to-end. But now you can also keep your backups safe. This means that not even WhatsApp or Google will be able to read your messages. Let’s learn how to turn on the setting for this.

  • Follow these steps: Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > End-to-end encrypted backup.
  • Set and save a password or 64-digit special key.

Use Advanced Chat Privacy

This feature allows you to prevent media (like photos, videos) sent in specific chats from being saved. This makes your chatting more secure than before. For this, too, you will have to follow some settings.

Turn on Two-Step Verification.

This feature further enhances the security of your WhatsApp account. If someone tries to log in by entering your number, they will need the PIN you set. This means that no one will be able to log in without your permission and the PIN you set.

  • Follow these steps: Settings > Account > Two-Step Verification
  • You will be able to set a 6-digit password for backups if you want.

Turn on this setting for groups.

It often happens that a stranger adds you to a group. But now that won’t happen. Because now you can decide who to add to the group and who not to.

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Groups.
  • (To block specific people) Choose from the Everyone, My Contacts, and My Contacts Except… options.

Hide Last Seen and Online Status

If you don’t want people to know when you were online or are online now, you can hide this information.

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Last Seen & Online.
  • Choose an option from Everyone, My Contacts, or Nobody.
