Pakistani cinema has achieved another international milestone as Geo Films’ gripping horror-thriller “Deemak” won the Best Editing Award at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival 2025.
Directed by Rafay Rashdi and featuring Soniya Hussyn in the lead role, Deemak represented Pakistan on the global stage with distinction. The film received the award during a prestigious ceremony held in Chongqing, China, where the cast and crew were warmly received.
Hosted by the China Film Administration and the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, the festival featured screenings, competitions, exhibitions, and international cooperation forums, with participation from 10 member states and 2 observer countries.
During the award ceremony, director Rafay Rashdi said, “It is a moment of pride for us. The international recognition Deemak has received reflects the growing potential of Pakistani cinema on the world stage.”
The event also saw an enthusiastic welcome for lead actress Soniya Hussyn and other team members, who added glamour and grace to the occasion.
Deemak has already made a major impact at home, earning over PKR 70 million in its opening weekend and drawing comparisons to top Bollywood productions. Its international recognition now further cements its success.
