If you think your home is smart, think again. I recently visited LG in South Korea, where I saw how smart homes can really be. Created with a vision of living off-grid, the Smart Cottage by LG takes technology to another level. The Korean conglomerate has started selling small homes that come fully furnished with technological enhancements.
While I know LG more for its televisions and kitchen appliances, after a tour of the show home on display in Korea, I can see why these could become the future - and I want one myself. The LG Smart Cottage is a compact, prefabricated home that incorporates cutting-edge heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and energy solutions.

The homes feature smart appliances and services. There are many different designs and styles of cottages, but I got to experience LG's Mono+, a single-story small smart home which is just 10 metres wide, 3.3 metres deep and only four metres tall. Other options include the Mono+ or double-story types, such as Duo and Duo+, which are two-story modules.
Don't be fooled by the size, though; this compact home has absolutely everything you need and more. It isn't portable, however, so it's best if you're looking for a small living space, a holiday home, or a rental property.
The space includes a wide range of LG kitchen and living appliances equipped with advanced technologies. These include a built-in microwave oven and an induction cooktop, as well as a PuriCare water purifier, a PuriCare AeroFurniture air purifier, and a CordZero A9 Air cordless vacuum.
Owners of the Smart Cottage can also use LG's ThinQ app, which makes life easy by controlling appliances such as LG's InstaView refrigerator and LG's WashTower Compact.
The InstaView fridge allows you to knock on the door to see what's inside without having to open it, and you can even change the colour of the door depending on your mood and style.

The ThinQ technology from LG was incredible to experience, and it utilises artificial intelligence and voice control to make living easy.
It encompasses a range of products, including TVs, fridges, and washing machines, all designed to be connected and controlled through the LG ThinQ app.
It also uses IoT devices (Internet of Things) such as smart locks, smart lights, CCTV, and motorised blinds, which can be controlled within the home or on the app.
By syncing with mobile devices and GPD services, the LG Smart Cottage activates intelligent routines, such as Welcome Mode, which automatically adjusts appliances and environment settings before the user arrives and switches to energy-saving mode after the user exits.
The Smart Cottage has been designed with sustainability in mind, and it features premium interior design incorporating the use of hardwood, tile and brass. To minimise environmental impact, the replaceable module components are also made with low-carbon steel materials.

Despite being small, it was fully equipped with smart appliances and everything you'd need, and it felt super comfortable.
I was so impressed with the size of the kitchen and the generous worktop space it had without eating into the living space, and an induction hob with three rings is definitely a luxury in a small space like this.
At the other end of the Smart Cottage was the living area, which had a couch that could turn into a bed, opposite the television.
There was also an air purifier next to the bed to keep the air clean, which is convenient when you're cooking in the same vicinity.
While I didn't notice any crazy technology in the bathroom, it was huge and larger than some of those in London flats.
The company already uses its Smart Cottage housing in its retreat in Gangwon Province, where employees can attend training and workshops. The layout has been designed based on the site's landscape.
While LG is working on plans to bring the LG Smart Cottage to the US and European markets, it's currently being sold to businesses in South Korea.
