Oven cleaning can seem overwhelming and time-consuming, especially if there's stubborn baked-on grease or spills, but many homeowners are unaware of features that make it easier. This can discourage many homeowners from cleaning their ovens regularly, leading to a buildup that becomes harder to remove.
In fact, according to premium appliance retailer AEG,almost one in four Brits has admitted that they only clean their oven once a year. However, many modern ovens have a hidden button or lever tucked away near the top corners of the door, which could make your house chores a lot easier. Knowing about and using this feature could save you time and effort, making oven maintenance a simpler part of your regular cleaning routine.

"Most modern ovens come equipped with a button or lever located on the upper corners of the door, often hidden from plain view.
"The primary purpose of this button is to lock and unlock the hinge mechanism, allowing the door to be lifted away from the oven body seamlessly," reported Cooktop Cove.
How to use itTo remove the oven door, start by locating the button, which is typically found on both sides near the top of the door. With the door open, engage the button-this usually involves pushing or sliding it, depending on your oven model.
Once the locking mechanism is released, carefully lift the door and gently pull it away from the oven frame.
After you've finished cleaning or maintenance, simply realign the door with the base of the oven and press it back until it clicks securely into place, re-engaging the lock. AEG's Oven Product Expert, Andrew Wasdell
Why do you need to clean your oven?AEG's Oven Product Expert, Andrew Wasdell, explained why cleaning your oven regularly is important. He stated: "If the glass in your oven door is dirty and you can't see through it, then visibility is reduced.
"This leads to you opening and closing the door more frequently, meaning the oven ends up using more energy to get back up to temperature.
"The other main problem with having a dirty oven is that it can impact the taste of the food you are cooking. For example, if you have a greasy oven, and the grease is burning during cooking, it could lead to a change in the taste of the food that is being cooked."
