
Mysuru: Two people, including a food delivery rider, died in a high-speed accident after a luxury bike crashed into a scooter on Nelson Mandela Road in Bannimantap early on Sunday, July 6.
The deceased have been identified as Syed Sharen (30), a resident of K.P. Mohalla in Chamarajanagar and rider of a high-end bike, and M.S. Karthik (42), a food delivery worker from Shettinayakanahalli in Mysuru taluk.
According to police, the accident took place around 2 am when Sharen was reportedly riding a Rs 15 lakh Hayabusa bike at high speed. His bike collided with Karthik’s scooter, who was on his way for a food delivery. After the collision, the bike rammed into an electric pole and caught fire.
Both riders sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.
DCP K.N. Sunder Raj, NR Traffic Inspector Rekha Bai, and other police personnel visited the accident site and conducted an inspection.
An FIR has been registered at the NR Traffic Police Station.
Sources said that before the accident, a bike race might have taken place in the area. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the stretch between Highway Circle and LIC Circle to verify this.
