Health Update on Diarrhoea Cases in Ganjam District
Ganjam: A diarrhoea outbreak in a village located in Odisha's Ganjam district has been reported as 'under control', according to a health department official on Tuesday. Currently, only one patient remains hospitalized.
The initial case of diarrhoea emerged from Ustapalli village in the Digapahandi block on July 6.
As of Monday, a total of 11 villagers had been hospitalized due to the illness, but no new admissions were recorded on Tuesday, stated Nilakantha Mishra, the Director of Public Health.
Among the 11 patients, five were treated at the Digapahandi community health centre (CHC), while the remaining six were transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
Ten of the hospitalized individuals have since been discharged after receiving treatment, Mishra confirmed.
A five-year-old child with respiratory complications continues to receive care at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Previously, relatives of two individuals, Dash Sabar (70) and Prakash Rait (37), alleged that their deaths were linked to diarrhoea.
However, the state's Health and Family Welfare Department clarified on Tuesday that Sabar passed away at home due to melena, while Rait's death was attributed to other health conditions.
Although the situation is now stabilized, the government has directed local officials to persist with awareness campaigns and disinfection efforts.
