MP Monsoon Update: The speed of monsoon has increased in Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rain and thundershowers are expected in many districts on July 9 as well. Torrential rain has been recorded in many parts in the last 24 hours. Due to situations like waterlogging, lightning and traffic disruption, the administration and the Meteorological Department have advised to remain alert.

Where did it rain in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, heavy rains were recorded in Raisen, Balaghat, Narsinghpur, Mandla, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Jabalpur, Damoh, Katni, Shahdol, Betul, Anuppur, Tikamgarh and many other districts. 353.3 mm rainfall was recorded in Varaseoni, 232.2 mm in Baihar and 223.7 mm in Katangi, which comes under the category of excessive rainfall. The weather also affected the maximum temperature and in many districts it was 5-6 degrees below normal.

In which districts is there an alert on 9th July?

Today, i.e. on July 9, heavy and very heavy rains are expected in Raisen, Namdapuram, Betul, Harda, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Chhindwara, Anuppur, Dindori and Pandhurna districts. Heavy rains and thunderstorms with strong winds have also been warned in districts like Bhopal, Vidisha, Burhanpur, Khargone, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Katni, Tikamgarh, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur. Winds can blow at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour in many districts.

Forecast for the next 2 days

Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in eastern and western parts of Madhya Pradesh on 10th and 11th July. Continuous rains will continue in districts like Balaghat, Chhindwara, Katni, Jabalpur, Mandla, Tikamgarh, Sagar, Damoh, Raisen and Betul. Due to rain, waterlogging may occur in some low lying areas.

Monsoon conditions

According to the Meteorological Department, the low pressure area formed over Gangetic West Bengal is now slowly moving in the northwest direction towards Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh. Due to this, monsoon activities will remain strong in Madhya Pradesh. Cyclonic circulation is also active in South Gujarat and surrounding areas, which will increase the effect of humidity and rainfall.

The Meteorological Department has clearly warned that due to very heavy rainfall in some districts, the water level of rivers may rise and sudden floods may occur. There is a need to be cautious especially in districts like Balaghat, Seoni, Mandla, Jabalpur, Chhindwara, Anuppur, Raisen, Betul, Harda, Shajapur, Katni. Also, it has been advised to stay away from open fields during lightning and thunderstorms.
